Role Overview
The Lead Engineer will provide expert consultancy services to clients, ensuring effective oversight of engineering activities and supplier performance. You will act as a key interface between the client and suppliers, managing technical deliverables, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and driving quality and safety standards throughout the project lifecycle. Additionally, you will support the consultancy’s growth by identifying new business opportunities, building client relationships, and contributing to proposal development and strategic planning.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Management:
- Supplier Interface Management: Act as the key technical liaison between clients and suppliers, ensuring alignment on engineering deliverables, schedules, and quality standards.
- Technical Oversight: Review and documentation, and deliverables to ensure compliance with project requirements and regulatory standards.
- Risk and Change Management: Identify, assess, and manage technical risks and change requests, ensuring effective governance and resolution processes.
- Quality Assurance: Monitor supplier quality processes to ensure that safety reports and supporting analysis project specifications and nuclear industry requirements.
- Collaboration and Coordination: Work with client teams, suppliers, and regulatory bodies to maintain alignment and resolve technical or contractual conflicts.
- Reporting: Provide regular progress reports, technical risk assessments, and insights to the Programme Manager and client stakeholders.
Business Development:
- Client Relationship Building: Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, identifying their needs and promoting consultancy services.
- Opportunity Identification: Support the identification of new business opportunities within the nuclear sector and related industries.
- Proposal Development: Contribute to the preparation of bids, proposals, and tenders, ensuring alignment with client requirements and showcasing the consultancy’s capabilities
- Market Insights: Stay informed of industry trends and developments, providing strategic input to enhance the consultancy’s service offerings
- Networking: Represent the consultancy at industry events, conferences, and meetings to build the company’s profile and develop new connections.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in engineering management within the nuclear or similarly regulated industry (e.g., energy, aerospace, or infrastructure).
- Knowledge of nuclear new build processes, including design, manufacturing, and installation phases.
- Proven ability to manage supplier relationships and ensure technical deliverables meet client requirements.
- Degree in engineering (e.g., mechanical, electrical, or nuclear) or a related field.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartered status.
Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and negotiation skills. - Business development experience, including client engagement, proposal writing, or strategic planning.
Desirable Skills
- Background in engineering consultancy, with experience delivering on behalf of clients.
- Proficiency in project management.
